Female Study in Ink

My drawing has just been getting worse since I stopped taking drawing classes. My pencil drawings are all squiggly and rough. I scribble in new lines on top of mistakes and do a lot of erasing, I guess because I'm afraid to commit to a single line, but those pieces are hard to save.

On a whim, I just picked up a Pilot Razor Point felt pen that I bought for a printmaking class a while back and decided to draw with that because I haven't worked in ink for a while. This is the result.

So here's my plan. I'm going to do a series of drawings like this one in ink and see if I can train myself to make cleaner lines, because there is no erasing ink. The simple act of using ink at all makes me more conscious of what lines I put down, and this is already better than any pencil drawing I've done in ages.

This was done just now, with no reference, in about 10 minutes or less. I find that quick drawings are good for forcing yourself to draw less, so I'll continue to do them this way. I've had the idea in my head for a while that I might draw a comic, but I have to (mostly) stop sucking first. Working on that.
