Snowy by WurdBendur Snowy by WurdBendur
This is sort of a compliment to my other landscape, Icy. It's not the same place; in fact it's not even the same world, but they still go together. I think the other looks better, though.

The total render time for this was 1 : 2 : 36 (That's H : M : S). By comparison, the work that lead up to it was negligible.

Wow... impressive!
Wait, what do you mean by "render" Do you mean the time it took you to make this? or the time it took your computer to processs and create the image? (in the second case, I have one of 2 things to say: either your computer is really slow, or OMFG! THAT MUST BE REALLY COMPLICATED!)

That's the time it took my computer to process the scene and generate the image. There's a lot of detail in the ground, the ripples in the water, and all the reflections and clouds. The image here is compressed and doesn't really do it justice. Render time also increases with size, and it's a fairly large image (I sized it so I could use it as a wallpaper).

I blurred it a little bit because it was a little rough to begin with, but that's mostly the compression, since I saved it as a JPG file.

Thanks. I do 3D scenes more like a photographer than a designer. Most of the terrain is generated randomly, though I did change the colors on that one to make it look snowy. But I basically explore the random terrain looking for the perfect scent. Like a photographer, I "wait" for the right lighting (I put the sun where I want it in the sky), and then I take my picture.

That's about how it worked with this one, though I definitely sculpted "Horizon" ([link]). It basically started as a big incline and grew some mountains.
