I've been reading about Celtic Knots and finally learned how to create them. They're not as hard as they look, just time-consuming. Note that mine is not a wholly typical knot: Most are constructed from arcs (at least wherever the rope twists), while mine is much more angular.
This was created in about 3 hours with Adobe Illustrator 10.0. The AI file is included for download and can be opened with Illustrator or viewed as a PDF.
Information on the topology of Celtic knots can be found here.
Yeah, I've tried some other knots on paper, and they're so much quicker.
The slowest part about doing it in Illustrator is the step which involves
deciding which parts go over or under
cutting all the ends so they fit together correctly
Note that I actually cut the ends so that the ropes but against each other, and I rely on the outline to separate them. This has the effect of making it much more consistent and also allowing me to adjust the space gaps between the parts (not to mention being easier).
On the computer it's so much more time-consuming. Paper wif those square things is much easier. In the end, you start doing them automatically.

Anyways, good pic.
